Singing together can be one of the simplest and most powerful ways to build connection and shared culture within a school community. It creates moments of belonging, lifts energy, and strengthens relationships across classrooms.
For many educators, however, singing can feel daunting. Questions about confidence, musical skill, or how to make it inclusive often get in the way.
When educators feel confident leading singing, students are more likely to participate and contribute. Songs in Schools creates space for student voice while maintaining clear and supportive adult leadership, strengthening connection across the school community.
Songs in Schools supports educators to bring singing into everyday classroom contexts and celebrations in ways that feel achievable, inclusive, and pressure-free. The focus is not on performance, but on shared experience, confidence, and connection.
Want to bring more shared joy into everyday school life?
Songs in Schools offers practical and responsive support to help embed singing into school life in ways that feel natural, sustainable and fun. Here’s how it works:
Collaborative reflection
We begin by exploring your school’s culture, existing practices, and goals for connection and community.
Staff learning and professional development
Whole-staff or team sessions introduce simple, inclusive songs and approaches that can be used confidently in classrooms and shared spaces.
Modelling and co-leading
I work alongside educators to demonstrate how songs can be introduced and led in ways that feel relaxed and accessible.
Co-planning and resource sharing
Together, we shape routines, song choices, and approaches that align with your school context and values.
Ongoing support
Where desired, follow-up sessions help consolidate confidence and build momentum over time.
Songs in Schools can include leadership conversations, staff learning sessions, and optional follow-up support to help embed singing into everyday school life. It can be offered as a short-term engagement or as an ongoing partnership, depending on your school’s needs.
What Songs in Schools Looks Like
About Me
Hi, I'm Dr Meg Steele, the director of Creative School Support. After over two decades working in education as a music therapist and teacher, a masters in inclusive education and a PhD exploring professional learning for classroom wellbeing, Creative School Support was born from a deep understanding of the real challenges schools face today. I've lived the pressures of teaching and leadership, witnessed burnout, under-resourcing, and the frustration of short-term solutions that don’t end with sustained change.
Creative School Support exists to change that. We don’t offer generic programs; instead, we embed ourselves in schools through professional learning that is tailored, flexible, and anchored in both research and real-world practice. We believe that when teachers are truly supported (not just with ideas, but with practical tools and ongoing care) whole school communities become places where everyone thrives.
Our work is a partnership, centred in care and driven by the belief that wellbeing and inclusion are the foundation for impactful schools.

Why Songs in Schools Works
Backed by Research
Research consistently shows that shared musical experiences strengthen connection, belonging, and school culture.
When educators feel confident leading singing in inclusive and accessible ways, these shared experiences become part of everyday school life rather than isolated events.
Sustainable culture grows from practices that feel achievable for staff and meaningful for students.
Shared Singing Builds Connection
Singing together creates moments of collective joy and shared identity. It supports students to feel part of something larger than themselves and strengthens relationships across classrooms and year levels.
When educators feel supported and confident, singing becomes less about performance and more about connection. It creates emotionally safe, relational spaces where participation is welcomed in many forms.
In this work, singing is approached as a practical and inclusive tool for building culture, not as a showcase or specialist program.
A Partnership That Respects Context
Songs in Schools is responsive, relational, and shaped around your school’s existing culture, priorities, and community voice. Support is developed in partnership with leadership and staff, and adjusted as understanding grows.
The focus is on approaches that feel authentic within your setting and can be sustained over time.
